Loiza is named after the magical city of Loiza in Puerto Rico where I visited in January of 2020.I painted this in right after returning from the simultaneously heartbreaking and affirming trip. I was there to help rebuild after the devastation of Maria , sadly due to the earthquakes the trip was cut short. However, I did get to meet one of the most amazing and influential painters in Puerto Rico, Samuel Lind.
The intent had always been and remains to donate the proceeds from this painting back to the rebuilding efforts on the island.
